Day:Thursday, November 3rd
Time: 18 hs
Lecture: N 28
Topic: Screening methods for mass spectrometry
Abstract: Analytical laboratories often perform general analytical techniques in complex samples in order to identify drugs, pesticides, antibiotics and other substances.
Traditionally, evaluation methods include immunoassays and chromatographic techniques (LC / UV and GC / MS) that, despite being well established, are not without drawbacks, such as cost and cross-reactivity often associated with immunoassays, the selectivity and sometimes limited sensitivity of LC/UV and the poor performance of GC/MS with volatile or thermally labile compounds.
The use of analytical techniques such as LC/MS and LC/MS/MS can dramatically improve the specificity and sensitivity and obtain a significant increase in the analysis capacity, making it possible to identify a large number of analytes within a very short amount of time with very little sample volume.

Topic: New frontiers in rheological measurement by using magnetic levitation bearing, dual optical encoder and true position sensor.
Abstract: The incorporation of innovative technologies in rheometry makes it possible to work in extremely low torque conditions (nanoNewton.meter) and/or displacements of up to 2 nanoradians, in order to effectively determine the viscoelastic properties even in very weak structures. With magnetic bearings, the inertia generated by the residual compressed air is significantly reduced. With dual optical encoder, the distortion (measured and/or controlled) is so small that the determination of zero shear viscosity of a structure is accurately determined. The true position sensor ensures that dimensional changes in the measurement system associated with changes in temperature are effectively identified and removed. Along with the technological innovations mentioned above, the addition of a force rebalancing transducer (FRT) plus other technological capabilities, allow the reach of new frontiers in rheological measurements.
